Focus with a system: Pomodoro and stopwatch in iFocus Plus

Why fixed work sessions work so well, and how to make iFocus Plus’s focus mode your own.

Sound familiar? You sit down to get one thing done, and an hour later you’ve started five things and finished none. That’s exactly what the focus mode in iFocus Plus is for. It links a timer to exactly one task, so you know what you’re working on right now and everything else can wait.

Two methods, one goal

iFocus Plus gives you two ways to work:

  • Pomodoro – you work in fixed blocks with short breaks in between. The classic technique uses 25 minutes of work and 5 minutes of rest, with a longer break after four rounds.
  • Stopwatch – no fixed end. Ideal when you’re in the flow, or when you simply want to see how long a task really takes.

Focus mode: one task, one timer.

How to get the most out of it

  1. Pick one task, not three. Link the timer to the one thing that matters right now.
  2. Work in full screen. Focus mode hides the rest of the app so nothing pulls you away.
  3. Take the break seriously. Stand up, drink some water, look out of the window. The break is part of the method, not a sign of laziness.
  4. Turn on Do Not Disturb. An iOS Focus (such as “Work”) keeps other apps’ notifications away while you work.

💡 My tip: Start with just one Pomodoro round a day for the task you’ve been putting off the longest. 25 minutes feels doable – and afterwards you’re often already deep into it.

Why it works

Fixed time blocks take one decision off your plate: you don’t have to think about how long you’ll last, only until the timer ends. That lowers the barrier to getting started. And because your focus is tied to a specific task, at the end of the day you can see where your time really went.
